Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig could be out until the postseason after beginning a rehab stint in Arizona last week, according to Mark Saxon of ESPN.com.
As the season is winds down, the Dodgers are firmly in the playoffs. The team is tied for the fourth-best record in major league baseball and tied for the third-best in the National League.
However, an injury to Puig could make the Dodgers’ playoff trip a quick one. Los Angeles is already shorthanded, as third baseman Justin Turner is dealing with a finger injury and second baseman Howie Kendrick is nursing a strained left hamstring.
Puig is a key hitter for Los Angeles, averaging a solid .256 and a .440 Slugging Average in his limited action this season. Puig’s power at the plate and presence in the outfield could be huge in the playoffs and the Dodgers could use all the help they can get amid all the injuries.
