USA Rugby Sevens Eagles Meet New Zealand in Las Vegas Cup Semis

Las Vegas, NV – USA Rugby Sevens moved on to the semifinals after defeating South Africa 29-10 in their Saturday quarterfinals matchup.

The USA bullied their way to a 29-0 lead with tries from Danny Barrett (2′), Stephen Tomasin (4′), Martin Iosefo (6′), Carlin Isles (9′) and Matai Leuta (10′).

South Africa responded with two late tallies from Johannes Pretorius (13′) and Stedman Gans (15′).

The Eagles play rugby powerhouse New Zealand on Sunday to determine who will play the winner of Samoa and Argentina for the Cup Final.

Head coach Mike Friday commented on the upcoming clash: “We can look forward to tomorrow with excitement as we have another opportunity to represent the USA rugby community at home in what will be a hugely physical and intense game against New Zealand.”

Sunday’s matches will be broadcast live across ESPN networks. The USA vs New Zealand game is scheduled to start at 1:12 PM PT.
