Seahawks still have a chance to retain Russell Okung

With the first week of the NFL Free Agency period over, Russell Okung still remains unsigned. Initially thought of as one of the premiere tackles on the market behind now Oakland Raider Kelechi Osemele, Okung was supposed to be on his way out of the Emerald city. Unfortunately, the concern over a lingering shoulder injury and Russell acting as his own agent has left the talented tackle wondering what happened.

In defense of Okung, his search for a new team has not come up empty. The tackle reportedly has deals on the table from the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, and Detroit Lions, although the Steelers, as of Tuesday afternoon, signed former Denver Bronco Ryan Harris to a 2 year deal. With the Steelers out of the picture, Okung now has to decide between the other two teams, or, he could choose to return to the Seahawks.

Speaking of the Seahawks, Seattle made a move of their own by signing former Oakland Raider J’Marcus Webb. A former starter for both Chicago and Oakland, Webb comes to Seattle as a versatile offensive line option who could start in place of Okung if he decides not to return. While the signing is not a huge deal, it’s a clear sign that though they remain interested in a reunion with their best lineman, they won’t be sitting around doing nothing while Russell takes his time to decide.

With his market slowly beginning to dwindle as teams snag others off the market, Russell Okung will need to make a decision soon about where he will be spending 2016. For Seahawk fans, they hope his decision is a return to anchor the line of a super bowl contender.
