The San Francisco 49ers held practice on Thursday with two of their starting linebackers dealing with injuries.
Aldon Smith was limited in the session, wearing a non-contact black jersey as he continues to battle a shoulder issue that caused him problems throughout the regular season. The second-year team sack leader out of Missouri will be instrumental in Super Bowl XLVII in the pass rush and disrupting Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco.
Brooks is also dealing with a shoulder injury, and did not participate in Thursday’s session. At the beginning of practice, the outside linebacker was seen on an exercise bike and is believed not to have participated.
The practice took place on artificial turf due to rain storms in the South Bay. Head coach Jim Harbaugh did not want to risk any further injuries to the NFC champions as they prepare to play in their first Super Bowl since 1994.The big game itself will also be played on an artificial surface in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Cornerback Tarrell Brown, fullback Bruce Miller in addition to Smith were officially listed as limited participants. Tight end Garrett Celek was also believed to miss practice.
