In the last few days, there has been chatter surrounding former Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant making a possible return that was all started after Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal hinted at that scenario.
However, it didn’t take long for Bryant’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, to chime in as she responded to a fan on Instagram asking her if the 18-time All-Star would be making a return to which she immediately shut down any hope that would happen.
Bryant is now more than two years removed from playing in his final NBA game where scored 60 points to close out his illustrious 20-year NBA career. In the time since then, he has shifted over to the entertainment industry where he’s involved in making short films that included getting an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for his film Dear Basketball.
Along those lines, he has also become further involved in finances with him and his business partner Jeff Stibel that launched Bryant-Stibel that is a venture capital firm that is solely focused on an assortment of business that includes media, gaming, date, and technology behind a $100 million in funding for companies. Bryant has also repeatedly stated that he is no interest in returning for another NBA season in time that he has been away from the game.
The chance to play with All-Star forward LeBron James for the first time in his career while possibly competing for an NBA title is intriguing, but the 39-year-old doesn’t look like it will push him out of retirement anytime soon. Bryant has solidified his legacy as a sure-fire Hall of Famer that is widely regarded as being one of the greatest players to play the game. If anything, these comments from his wife should shut down these rumors that O’Neal joking started last week.
