Lakers rumors: Team to workout free agent F Quincy Miller

The Los Angeles Lakers later this week plan on working out former Denver Nuggets forward Quincy Miller, according to RealGM.com.

This comes just a day after the team was granted a $1.5 million disabled player exception for Julius Randle by the NBA after it was determined that the rookie has suffered a “substantial” enough of an injury to force him to miss the entire 2014-15 season.

Miller was selected in second round of the 2012 draft out of Baylor by the Nuggets. In his two first seasons, he averaged 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 59 games played. The 21-year-old earned significant playing time last season starting 16 games and taking the floor in 52 games. He did not make the final round of cuts for the regular-season roster for the Nuggets, and was waived a day prior to the start of this season.

Miller’s addition to the Lakers would provide them more depth at the small forward position behind Wesley Johnson, especially with Nick Young still rehabbing his surgically-repaired right thumb. Xavier Henry has also looked like he is still working his way back from his two offseason surgeries.

The third-year forward shares a similar body frame to that of Johnson in terms of length and athletic ability. He is still a bit of a project offensively, but he already possesses decent ball handling skills and can shoot from 3-point range.
