Lakers rumors: Team to add Dwight Buycks?

The Los Angeles Lakers may be market to add another player to their roster as the team is rumored to be considering signing guard Dwight Buycks, according to RealGm.com.

Buycks is currently playing in the NBA D-League as a member of the Oklahoma City blue, where he is averaging 18.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists for the Oklahoma City Blue. Since going undrafted out of Marquette in the 2011 NBA draft, he has played professionally over the last four years in the NBA, D-League and overseas.

The 26-year-old played 14 games last year with the Toronto Raptors, where he averaged 3.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 10.4 minutes. This season he began playing in the Spanish ACB league with Valencia, and followed it by signing with the Tianjin in China.

Los Angeles is coming off their 25th home loss of the season, which featured a possible significant injury to another  player. Wayne Ellington suffered a mild separated right shoulder in the final minutes of the game after colliding with New Orleans Pelicans guard Toney Douglas.

Ellington underwent an MRI on the injury Thursday morning, and following Wednesday’s loss to the Pelicans he was optimistic that he wouldn’t require surgery. However, there is likely a chance that the injury itself surgery or not could force Ellington to miss a few games or possibly the remainder of the season.

This could open up way for the Lakers to add another player if they are granted a hardship exception for having four players out due to an extensive injuries in Kobe Bryant (rotator cuff), Julius Randle (leg), Ronnie Price (elbow), and Nick Young (Knee).

They have already made a roster move earlier this week by signing Jabari Brown to a multi-year deal after the team waived Steve Nash. All in all, a move to add another player such as Buycks may be on the horizon for the Lakers.
