Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James is set to begin his first season with the franchise where he will have the weight of expectations on his shoulders along with plenty of excitement and buzz concerning his play.
In the annual poll conducted by John Schuhmann of NBA.com that surveys all the general managers around the league, it saw James be selected as the top choice to win the MVP award next season.
James is stepping into a situation where he has the chance to lead the Lakers back to prominence in the NBA as the driving force of the franchise that the team has been lacking over the few years. The team is coming off a five-year playoff drought that is the longest mark in franchise history, which he has a chance to be a major factor in changing that toward by pushing them back to into the postseason picture.
Meanwhile, James is entering his 16th year in the league still playing some of the best basketball of his career coming off an MVP-caliber campaign put firmly in the MVP conversation 27.5 points on 54.2 percent shooting from the field along with a career-best 9.1 assists and 8.6 rebounds per contest. This saw him finish third in the league in scoring and second in assists. It saw him finish with a league-best 2,251 points scored last year while also being the first player in NBA history to rack up at 30,000 career points, 8,000 rebounds, and 8,000 assists.
The 33-year-old hasn’t shown any decline in his play on the court as he has continued to prove that he is still playing at the highest level entering this next stage of his career. He is heading into a situation where he could make a compelling case to earn his fifth NBA MVP award while leading the Lakers back to prominence back next season.
