The story continues…
On Thursday it was reported that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has requested permission to seek a trade from the organization. This happens only a day after general manager Trent Baalke spoke about how he expected the talented quarterback to be on the roster come next season. The news of Kaepernick’s request may come at a somewhat surprising time given Baalke’s recent proclamation, but it isn’t the first time the quarterback has let it be known that he would like a change of location.
Just earlier this month, reports surfaced that Kaepernick wanted to leave the 49ers for the New York Jets, prompting wide receiver Brandon Marshall to state his quarterback preference. With this new development surfacing, it’s clear that the 49ers have a dilemma at the quarterback position.
If the 49ers execute some sort of deal involving Kaepernick, they will likely be looking to bring in someone to run Chip Kelly’s offense. If that happens, look for soon-to-be free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III‘s name to gain popularity in the bay area.
