Since the Los Angeles Lakers acquired LeBron James via free agency, there have been various rumors about potential talk about star players joining the mix.

Among those has been New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis, who has seen his future with the team being questioned over the last two summers. During an interview on ESPN’s The Jump on Thursday, Davis shot down the chatter surrounding possible interest coming to the Lakers. (h/t Timothy Rapp of Bleacher Report)

“You hear it everywhere. And it’s funny. How did that even happen? … But in my head, I don’t pay attention to it. I look at what I have now, and what I can do now, and it’s helping my team win. You can’t look into what someone else is saying or listen to all the white noise. ‘AD’s going here, AD’s going here, AD’s going here.’ AD’s playing for the Pelicans this year. So my job is to focus on winning and helping these guys as much as possible, on and off the floor, and the rest will take care of itself.”

Davis is taking the approach with the situation to shun out all the noise that will be around him over this upcoming season and possibly into next summer. He is currently heading into the third year of his five-year, $127.1 million deal that has no player or team options that run through the 20-21 season, which could see things heat up in the final two years of his contract as there will be more questions about signing an extension.

If at any point there is an indication that he doesn’t want to ink a new contract, it could push the Pelicans toward moving him in order to avoid being left empty-handed. This is a topic that will eventually become quite prominent the closer he gets toward the end of his deal in the next couple of years.

In the meantime, it appears that Davis is committed to the Pelicans toward being a long-term piece of the puzzle for the franchise.
