Report: 49ers release Ray McDonald after new allegations

Andrew Brandt of ESPN reported today that the San Francisco 49ers are releasing defensive lineman Ray McDonald after news broke that he was being investigated by the San Jose Police Department for suspicion of sexual assault.

No charges have been filed and McDonald has not been arrested as of yet.

The investigation follows McDonald’s arrest on August 31 on charges of domestic abuse. After a lengthy investigation and much public play in the media, no charges were ever filed and the case was closed.

McDonald is in his eighth NFL season, all with the 49ers. Through 14 games this season, he has three sacks and 26 tackles for the 7-7 49ers.
