San Francisco 49ers: Where’s the ceiling for Colin Kaepernick?

Needless to say, the San Francisco 49ers did not have a good showing on Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks. Losing 42-13, the whole team, not just one player, was responsible for the lack of production on offense and the inability to stop Seattle’s offense on defense.

That being said, there was certainly a lot of blame going towards quarterback Colin Kaepernick. From two delay of game penalties likely due to the deafening crowd noise at CenturyLink Field to two timeouts called to avoid the same penalty, he look frazzled and struggled at the tough road environment. The 49ers offense often features multiple plays calls in the huddle along with pre-snap motion. Trying to handle all of this is a tough task for any NFL quarterback.

When considering the potential of Kaepernick’s career, a situation like this is on the more-difficult end of the spectrum. With so many challenging elements in this game (on the road,

performance in Week 16 is one of the weaker showings he’ll have in his career. That being said, just one week prior against the New England Patriots, the 49ers offense faced a similar scenario and shined, particularly in the first half.loud crowd noise, game with a lot on the line, weather), his

Although still very much a project as the team’s starting quarterback of the present and future, Kaepernick certainly has the tools to succeed. An accurate, strong-armed thrower with excellent speed and elusiveness at the position, his first few starts of his career have shown glimpses at why the 49ers traded up for him in the 2011 NFL Draft. With more experience and growth, he should be able to hone these skills and become one of the most dynamic and dangerous quarterbacks in the league.
