James believes that the Lakers will have to exercise much patience as the team works towards developing strong chemistry on the court.

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a loss in the season opener falling on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers 128-119 on Thursday night in LeBron James‘ first official game with the franchise.

It was a typical performance from his posting an all-around outing with 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting with 12 rebounds, and six assists. However, there were some notable struggles with the team looking like there is still plenty of room to grow with their chemistry on the court with each other. This is something that James touched upon after the game as he voiced that it will take time for them to get to the point that they desire, according to Joey Ramirez of Lakers.com.

“I always kind of compare it to instant oatmeal,” James said. “It’s not that fast. It takes a while for the chemistry to get to where you close your eyes and you know exactly where your guys are. That’s what we’re going to work towards.”

Los Angeles had plenty of bright spots beyond the play of James with Josh Hart providing a spark plug off the bench with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting while Brandon Ingram got into a groove in the third quarter with 12 points. There was also the play of both Rajon Rondo and JaVale McGee showing what they bring to the table. McGee was huge near the basket with his rim protecting ability while Rondo showed great control in transition with his decision making on his passes and directing of the offense.

However, the team did miss their first 15 three-pointers in the contest along with the defense looking to be a work in progress. It is something that should see continued improvement in both areas as they get more playing time under their belt together as the season rolls along.

The Lakers will get another chance to begin to further that chemistry and bond on the court on Saturday night with their home opener against the Houston Rockets.
