Lakers news: Brandon Ingram starting at point guard, Rajon Rondo sitting out

Brandon Ingram

Heading into the third preseason game, the Lakers are rolling with Ingram as the starting point guard.

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to play their third game of preseason action on Thursday night against the Sacramento Kings, but it will feature some more lineup changes.

According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, head coach Luke Walton voiced during shootaround that third-year forward Brandon Ingram will get the start at point guard while Rajon Rondo will be a healthy scratch from the contest.

Meanwhile, there will be the insertion of second-year forward Kyle Kuzma into the starting lineup as the starting power forward while LeBron James will move up to small forward to fill Ingram’s spot at that position.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that Walton had stated that he is hoping to field a team that can multiple lineups across the board. It also helps that Los Angeles has a roster full of players that can play multiple positions on the floor that can allow him to mix around the lineup.

The Lakers are looking to put on the floor various lineups especially with a roster that has several new additions, which would mean that there is plenty of adjusting for the team on the floor. The preseason allows for the Lakers to move around their lineup and experiment to see what works best for the betterment of the team. Ingram has some previous experience playing point guard last year while Lonzo Ball was out of the lineup due to injury.

He had excelled in the month of February with that increased ball-handling responsibility with Ball out of the lineup where he averaged 18.6 points on 54.5 percent shooting from the field and 52.2 percent from 3-point range with 5.2 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in 10 games played. Ingram has shown he can playmake with the ball in his hands as a distributor. This will be his chance to pick up more of that role in the starting lineup with his new teammates James and JaVale McGee
