In the last several years, LeBron James has become a much bigger proponent off the court for helping his hometown of Akron, Ohio that has seen him be involved in some major positive events that have benefit others greatly.
It is something that his new Los Angeles Lakers teammate Kyle Kuzma is hoping he can do for his hometown of Flint, Michigan that has been ravaged with issues ranging from the lack of clean water throughout the city to higher crime and violence rates, according to Ohm Youngmusik of ESPN.
“LeBron is a role model in that sense,” Kuzma said. “Because for him to be as good as he is and how high up he is on the totem pole, to still care about Akron, Ohio, that is tremendous and speaks volumes.”
“He is from a small city and I am from a small city. So I want to [have] that type of impact on my community.”
Things have been rough over the years for Kuzma’s hometown that has become more clear as time has passed. There has been a long history of struggles to get clean water throughout the city as the government has had problems resolving that impacted thousands of people.
Kuzma is now in the position where he can help bring more attention to those issues with the spotlight he has being an NBA player that gives him more resources to put things together for his hometown. He clearly has the motivation to take the necessary steps toward getting that all organized to help better things for the Flint residents. If he can go the route anywhere near what James has done and continues to do that will be a big step forward.
It is now in Kuzma’s hands to make the most of the opportunity in front of him to help those in need in the matter he believes he can.
