The Los Angeles Lakers have put together a noteworthy offseason that was headlined by several moves in free agency led by the acquisition of All-Star forward LeBron James on a four-year, $153 million deal.
This has seemingly put them in the conversation of being a potential threat in the Western Conference to the defending champion Golden State Warriors. In response to that, Warriors All-Star forward Draymond Green has voiced that his team has no concerns about the Lakers but instead voiced that teams are more worried about them, according to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.
On whether the Warriors are worried about the Lakers: “Teams worry about us. We don’t worry about nobody. We are the champs. Why do we have to worry about anybody? They have to worry about us. They say we are ruining the league. I love it!”
The Warriors have been the standard bearers in the league over the last four years with three NBA titles in four NBA Finals appearances over that span. They have assembled the most talented roster in the league that they have added another All-Star in center DeMarcus Cousins to the mix on a one-year, $5.3 million deal. Granted, Cousins is returning from a torn Achilles tendon, there is a chance that this could work out great in the Warriors’ favor next season.
Meanwhile, the addition of James to the Lakers does possibly put them in the thick of things in the stacked Western Conference. He has a chance to bring the team back to the playoffs after missing it altogether in a franchise-worst five straight years. It is a new challenge for James to take on that could see him take the franchise to great heights over these next few seasons.
All that said, until another team is able to knock off the Warriors in the playoffs, there isn’t much for Green to be concerned about at this point. Only time will tell if the Lakers could be the ones that end this dominant run that Golden State has been on.
