The Los Angeles Clippers agreed to send Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons Monday afternoon, according to reports from David Aldridge of TNT, and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The reports indicated the Clippers would also be shipping out Willie Reed along with Griffin for a package including Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Majanovic, a first-round and a second-round draft pick.

The news came as a shock league-wide, players and fans alike. Griffin has spent his eight-year career as a Clipper, and just signed a five-year deal this past summer. With Griffin and Chris Paul leading the way, the Clippers eclipsed the 50-win mark each of the last five seasons.
The team — after bringing on Jerry West as a front office consultant — decided to make some major changes in the offseason starting with the Paul trade. Now Griffin is out; few will be surprised if DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams aren’t on their way out soon.
The Clippers, while losing the face of their franchise, bring back some highly productive role players.
Bradley is averaging 15 points per game this season, shooting 38.1 percent from beyond the arc. Harris is averaging 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists per game on 45.1 percent shooting from the field and 40.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

For now, the hope — short term — lies in where the first round draft pick lands. The pick from Detroit is top-4 protected. The Pistons are currently four games back in the loss column from the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference. The Clippers will not only have their own draft pick, but potentially a lottery pick next year as well.
