The Los Angeles Rams made a late offseason move by trading for wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

L.A. sent corner E.J. Gaines and a second round pick to the Buffalo Bills for Watkins and a sixth round pick.

Watkins had 430 receiving yards and two touchdowns in eight games for Buffalo last season. Watkins joins Robert Woods as former Bills receiver on the Rams roster. Lee left the team via free agency earlier this offseason.

Watkins , the 2014 No. 4 overall pick, should instantly become the Rams No. 1 receiver as they lack a player with Watkins’ experience as a lead receiver.

Over his three year career, Watkins has 2,549 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. It appears the Rams are making an effort to give second year quarterback Jared Goff more weapons on the outside by trading for the 24-year-old receiver. Watkins finished as the 47th graded receiver with a 76.8 grade from Pro Football Focus

The Clemson Tigers alumni will get paid $6.53 million in the final year of his rookie deal, per Over the Cap. Buffalo traded up for Watkins in the 2014 draft but they declined his fifth year option earlier this offseason.

Otherwise, the Bills completed their day by trading for Jordan Mathews. Mathews was a second round pick in that 2014 NFL Draft. He averaged 75 catches, 891 yards and just over six touchdowns per game for his career in Philadelphia. Buffalo sent corner Ronald Darby to the Eagles for Mathews and a 2018 third round pick. Darby has 29 career starts and 2 interceptions.
