Clippers forward Danilo Gallinari injures thumb punching opponent in exhibition game in Europe

The Los Angeles Clippers’ newest addition — forward Danilo Gallinari — injured his right thumb Sunday (July 30, 2017) in an exhibition game between Italy and the Netherlands. Gallinari hurt his hand throwing a punch an an oppoenent; the official from Italy’s team said Gallinari is expected to be out three-to-four weeks.

The injury has forced Gallinari to miss the remaineder of the EuroBasket tournament. He’s still projected to join the Clippers in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 25 for media day.

Gallinari joined the Clippers this offseason in a three-team sign-and-trade scenario, signing for three years-$63 million.

The NBA veteran — still just 28 years of age — averaged 18.2 points (on 38.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc), 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season for the Denver Nuggets.
