LA JOLLA, Calif. — The PGA TOUR returns to the San Diego area with the Farmers Insurance Open set to begin on Thursday, Jan. 28. Among the field are 20 of the world’s 50 best players according to the Official World Golf Ranking.
Most notably, Jason Day will attempt to defend his victory last year in his seventh start at the event.
The Aussie, ranked No. 2 in the world, is coming off three top-10 finishes in each of the last three starts at the world-famous Torrey Pines. If he can shake off a flu bug to make the start, he will make his second of the season after T10 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Southern California native Rickie Fowler (Murrieta, Calif.) will also be in the field and look for his second win in 2016 after emerging victorious at Abu Dhabi on the European Tour. He has two top-10 finishes in six starts at the 2021 U.S. Open venue.
