Kings’ Jarret Stoll charged with felony possession

Los Angeles Kings’ forward Jarret Stoll was charged Monday with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance. The charge stems from Stoll’s initial arrest on suspicion of possession of cocaine and ecstasy in Las Vegas in late April at the Wet Republic pool at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

If convicted, Stoll could face a maximum of four years in Nevada State Prison.

Stoll, 32, is a pending unrestricted free agent, and was a critical contributor on the Kings’ 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup championship winning teams. Last season, Stoll scored six goals and 17 total points playing in 73 games.

Even without the charge, Stoll was unlikely to return to the club for next season. According to Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times, as Stoll’s case will return to court on July 1, the start of the NHL’s free agency period, his immediate playing future is very much in doubt.
