Just mere hours after the Los Angeles Lakers lost guard Dwight Buycks for the last two games of the season, the team has reportedly decided to sign guard Vander Blue, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Blue was averaging 23.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists for the Los Angeles Defenders, the Lakers’ NBA Development League affiliate. He also played in three games for the Boston Celtics last season averaging 1.7 points, one rebound and 0.3 assists in five minutes per game.

The urgency to add another guard was due to the fact that Los Angeles was down to just two healthy guards on the roster in Jordan Clarkson and Jabari Brown.

Head coach Byron Scott had announced prior to Sunday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks that Jeremy Lin would be out for the remainder of the season due to persistent soreness in his left knee.

In total the Lakers have lost nine players to season-ending injuries this season including Buycks, Lin, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Ronnie Price, Xavier Henry, Nick Young, Wayne Ellington, and Julius Randle.

Blue will be the 11th player and fifth rookie to make his debut for the Lakers this season.
